אֵפוֺ (Job 17,15; Job 19,6; Job 19,23; Job 24,25), elsewhere אֵפוֺא (compare רִבּוֺ and רִבּוֺא ), enclitic particle then (probably from פּוֺ, a particle with a demonstrative force, compare פּוֺ, פֹּה here, with א prefixed. In the Targs. פּוֺן is used somewhat similarly, e.g. 1 Mos 26,10; 4 Mos 11,29; Es 1,9; Es 48,18; Es 48,19), — used
1. in connection with interrogatory pronouns or adverbs (like ἄρα, ποτε tandem): מִי אֵפוֺא 1 Mos 27,3 who, then, . . . ? v1 Mos 27,37 וּלְכָה אֵפוֺא מָה אֶעֱשֶׂה and for thee, then, what shall I do, my son ? 2 Mos 33,16 וּבַמֶּה יִוָּדַע אֵפוֺא and wherein shall it be known, then...? אַיה אֵפוֺא where, then ? Dom 9,38; Es 19,12; Job 17,15; Hos 13,10 אֱהִי מַלְכְךָ אֵפוֺא Es 22,1 מַהלָּֿח אֵפוֺא what is there to thee, pray. . .?
2. in a command or wish : 2 Kong 10,10 דְּעוּ אֵפוֺא ? know, then; (in apodosis) Ord 6,3; Job 19,6; Job 19,23 מִיּיִֿתֵּן אֵפוֺ וְיִכָּֽתְבוּן מִלָּי֑ would, then, that my words were written !
3. after אִם 1 Mos 43,11 אִםכֵּֿן אֵפוֺא זאֹת עֲשׂו if it be so, then, do this, Job 9,24 if not then, who is it ? Job 24,25.
